The Campfire Lights the Darkness pt 1
I often get the idea for a title in a devotion before I actually know what verses I will select or what direction the article will take. This one leads up to the week before the Halloween craze sweeps the attention of our children and this title leads me straight into the ease of Satan's deceptions.
The Light that Guides
Darkness that Deceives / Imaginations that Hinder
God wants to be our Lamp in this dark world! Sometimes it seems to be pretty dark. It is not easy to see, when we are bombarded with so much "desensitizing" information from the world view. Even as we strive to do good, Satan is always there to convince us, "it's not really a bad thing," or "we have a right to do that." In our imaginations we sometimes rationalize what we want to be true! It just fits our life so much better when we "imagine."
It does not change the fact that what God says in His Word is truth; We need to be seeking our answers from Him. The Bible shows us right from wrong and good from evil. Simple as that! Where God's Word makes sense, we should not mess with it! He gives some pretty clear instructions. God's Holy Spirit will help us understand, and it is through listening to His Holy Spirit, IN FAITH, HE... reveals His lamp of understanding. Knowing what God says in His Word will help to keep us out of the darkness of unholy mind sets where Satan's confusion resides.
"You are my lamp, O LORD; the LORD turns my darkness into light." 2 Samuel 22:29
If you have that heartfelt personal relationship with Jesus, you can see as He sees and He will reveal truth when you turn your heart toward Him, seeking to know and obey Him. That is when you become a "beacon," lighting the way for others. That is when you and I know we are truly set free! Not only are we freely forgiven...We are freely informed!
So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed. John 8:36
Submission to God's Holy Spirit and living in obedience to Him, serves to set us free from the bondage of sin. When God frees us from addictions, bad behavior, and Satan's lies, He has lit a torch of freedom from "wrong thinking" as well. When we are willing, His Holy Spirit brings the understanding. Oh, what JOY fills our hearts and minds when that freedom enters in! Freedom for us to live a life at peace with God, now and for eternity, came at a high price. God does not intend for it to be ours to pay. Jesus already paid it for us on the cross at Calvary. We just need to accept that wonderful gift and allow God to be the boss!
"Life was in Him, and that life was the light for all people" John 1:4

I send this newsletter devotional out on Wednesday mornings so those teaching Sunday School classes will have them ahead of the week end. The second part of this lesson series will reach your box on Oct. 24th, so it can be taught the week end before Halloween. How will you approach Halloween as a Christian? We really do need to be "on guard." Satan may just be in the "Imaginations."
