Palm Sunday — Bridging the Gap

Victorious Humility

Our King of kings is riding into town on a donkey, which He borrowed! How prepared are we in our understanding of what God is saying by introducing Him in such a humble fashion? I hope you will follow my lead and seek through the scriptures to see why I selected the subject of humility for our Palm Sunday celebration!
Therefore, as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. Col. 3:12-13 NIV
Jesus' birth, ministry, introduction and entrance were all humble. His sacrifice on the cross, the most humble of all. This week we celebrate the entrance of the Messiah, the Christ and His ministry. Next week we remember the shedding of the innocent blood of the Lamb of God. It is in His resurrection we celebrate the victory He graced upon us. We should prepare our hearts with humility, but not for one moment should we fail to recognize the importance of the resurrection power that is now within us.
For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men, teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly in the present age, looking for the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ, who gave Himself for us, that He might redeem us from every lawless deed and purify for Himself His own special people, zealous for good works. Titus 2:11-14
Let's go to Isaiah 53 - I hope you will read it through as it describes our Savior's agony. Next read the verses in the Gospels as Jesus prays to Father God, sweating drops of blood in the Garden of Gethsemane. Matthew 26:36-4, Mark 14: 32-41, Luke 22:44. And then in John 17: 2-5, Jesus prays for Himself:
"Father, the time has come. Glorify your Son, that your Son may glorify you. For you granted him authority over all people that he might give eternal life to all those you have given him. Now this is eternal life: that they may know you, the only true God and Jesus Christ, who you have sent. I have brought you glory on earth by completing the work you gave me to do. And now, Father, glorify me in your presence with the glory I had with you before the world began."
His love for us was so great and merciful He died the death of a criminal in crucifixion. What horrible agony it was for Him Who knew no sin to pay the price for ours. Worse than that was the Son of God enduring a total separation from Father God. Shouldn't we give thought to the agony of God the Father as He could not look upon His one and only Son as He took our sin and our punishment. Jesus came to set us free from that spiritual death and separation from God for all eternity.
"I have blotted out, like a thick cloud, your transgressions, and like a cloud, your sins. Return to Me, for I have redeemed you." Isaiah 44:22
For Jesus it all started and finished in humility. And then came the victory! I believe for us it should start and finish with humility. IN FAITH, HE...brings the victory to us. Living a life filled and in tune with His Holy Spirit will help us endure whatever this life requires as we humble ourselves before Him and for the sake of others.
Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom also we have access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God. Romans 5:1
A Prayer to Share:
Father God,
All praise, honor and glory be to You the giver and author of my faith. Remind me to remain in You, humble in spirit and deep in gratitude for Your loving gift of redemption through Your Son, Jesus.
Amen!
