IN FAITH, HE....Devotional
God the Father spoke in The Old Testament Commandments:
These commands are our indictment! He gave us further instruction in The New Testament Commandments and in The Beatitudes. And then, Jesus the Christ provided our pardon!
Jesus replied: "'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: 'Love your neighbor as yourself. All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments."
The Ten Commandments (7) - Receiving a Badge of Honor
"You shall not commit adultery." Deuteronomy 5:18
Loyalty / Thoughtful in Deeds
The dictionary says to "adulterate" something is "to make it impure or add something which does not belong." How many occasions and to whom or "Whom" do we commit adultery? I think a literal translation may be good food for thought.
If we could analyze our actions and motives, we may be able to see that "which does not belong." We could learn to be more careful about what we bring into a relationship and possibly even a conversation. If it does not belong there, we must remove it! If it is impure, it has to go!
"Surely, as a wife treacherously departs from her husband, So have you dealt treacherously with Me, O house of Isreal," says the LORD Jeremiah 2:20
Much of the Old Testament teaches of God's relationship with Isreal and Judah. Turning away from Him became a pattern which was repeated over again and again. Jeremiah 3 is a great place to learn just a small bit of His frustration with His people. The book of Habakkuk is yet another. God always gave warning signs, explanations, and so often, unmerited mercy. Their discontentment and disobedience made Israel adulteress toward God. Their lack of faith in Him and forgetfulness of the God of their fathers, turned them to false idols and wickedness in God's eyes as they sought after their own hearts desires. God's disappointments are not reserved for Isreal and Judah, but for His people in all generations!
In His second appearance to Solomon, the LORD gave a promise to His children. He said, "if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land." 2 Chronicles 7:14
What a wonderful forgiving and merciful God we have. Loyalty in our relationship with God should be first on our "home improvement" list. This will lead us to act with loyalty and thoughtful deeds in our personal relationships as well. He knows what will cause us trouble and heartache. He has commanded we live with honor in our commitments. IN FAITH...He has promised His help.
The Bible says, "...No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it." 1 Corinthians 10:13
When God brings a man and woman together in marriage it is His "perfect" will they be together forever until death parts them. It takes a lot of courage to deny our feelings and be led by His Spirit! The more honest we are the easier it is to choose God's ways instead of falling into temptations, led by our selfish desires and the deceitful taunting of the evil one. God can help us say "no" to impure thoughts or actions, and "yes" to being loyal in all of our relationships especially the one we are to have with Him!
"The kingdom of heaven shall be likened to ten virgins who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom."
In Matthew 25, Jesus uses a parable to teach his disciples to be ready for His return. The bride (His church, His people) must prepare and be ready for His coming. No one knows the day nor the hour in which He will come. When our Bridegroom does come, I hope He will find His bride faithful and loyal. What a glorious wedding feast that will be!
"Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called sons of God." Matthew 5:9
Our hearts can remain pure when we love with AGAPE (unconditional love) of Christ. We are blessed when we do things His way. Living as Jesus would have us live with loyalty to God and others is our "Badge of Honor."
Nudge me, when I tread into wrong thinking. Bring my thoughts into a purity fitting of You. My discontentment is when I forget to use the Fruit of Your Spirit! My perfect peace is always in You! I praise You for Your faithfulness.
