Ten Commandments and Beatitudes for Kids | for Teens

IN FAITH, HE....Devotional

God the Father spoke in The Old Testament Commandments:

These commands are our indictment! He gave us further instruction in The New Testament Commandments and in The Beatitudes. And then, Jesus the Christ provided our pardon!
Jesus replied: "'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: 'Love your neighbor as yourself. All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments."

Ninth Commandment:
"You shall not give false testimony against your neighbor." Deuteronomy 5:20
Imagine if a single lie was allowed into heaven for eternity? When we watch the growth of a lie, we quickly see why not even one sin is allowed to pass the heavenly gates. In preparing for this devotion, I've become aware of the many types of lies we contend with on a daily basis.
Truth Matters
You are of your father the devil, and the desires of your father you want to do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own resources, for he is a liar and the father of it. John 8:44
We are subjected to lies every day and they do us more harm than we could ever anticipate. There are those "little white lies," which we think could not possibly hurt anyone, but somehow manage to come back to haunt us. The BIG lies that take on a destructive life of their own as they grow with a desperate need to cover up the original deception. There are also the lies of embellishment as we stretch the truth in our desire to impress others. We also contend with those lies we tell ourselves, which keep us in bondage and become a burden, not only to "self," but to those we love.
There is a way that seems right to a man, But its end is the way of death. Proverbs 14:12
I believe the deceptions of the devil are the worst lies of all. We, as followers of Jesus Christ indwelled by the Holy Spirit, should admit that deep down we know when something goes against God. And yet, there are many Christians who continue to follow the world's view on many issues in an attempt to remain, should I say the words, "politically correct? When we believe the lies of Satan and go along with the world's way of thinking we are no better than "our father the devil." We mislead others with rational and excuses which seem right but lead to death of body, heart, soul...as well as spirit. We walk a slippery slope when we choose to pick only those things we want to agree with and discard the truths God has so plainly defined for us in His Word.
Even so the tongue is a little member and boasts great things. See how great a forest a little fire kindles! And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity. The tongue is so set among our members that it defiles the whole body, and sets on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire by hell. James 3:5-6
God commands we pay close attention to the truth in what we say and do. I love the book of James for instructs on what we need to do with our "lip service." I have witnessed many churches and children of God led into destruction by the incessant utterance of loose lips. IN FAITH...HE, has shown the importance of being careful with what I say or what I may repeat from information I am given by others. Great pain comes to the hearts of many when we do not learn to tame the tongue. James (the brother of Jesus) tells us in chapter 1:19, to be swift to listen, slow to speak and slow to anger. He also reminds us in verse 22-23, not to be hearers of the Word only, but to be doers of what God has instructed. We must look deep within at that man in the mirror. Being truthful with ourselves and with others will aid us in our Christian walk! It is important that we be truthful in all matters of life in order for our witness of Jesus to be accepted.
Relating Beatitude

Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness' sake, For theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Matthew 5:10

God gives us His truths in the Bible. He tells us how to live fruitful lives in obedience to Him. He gave His command for us to share the "good news," of Jesus Christ with others. When God gives the opportunity for us to share what Jesus has done, He is already working in the heart, mind, soul and spirit of those He brings into our path. The Holy Spirit is at work and He will use us to make a difference in the lives of other. We are obedient when we share the truths in God's Word.
Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him, "If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free."
Father God,

I love Your Instruction Book, with all the life's lessons You have designed for us. I wish to be more careful with the things I say, the way I say them and to always remain truthful to Your commands. Help me be the person You would have me to be in word and in deed.

Amen
