Ten Commandments and Beatitudes for Kids | for Teens

IN FAITH, HE....Devotional

God the Father spoke in The Old Testament Commandments:

These commands are our indictment! He gave us further instruction in The New Testament Commandments and in The Beatitudes. And then, Jesus the Christ provided our pardon!
Jesus replied: "'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: 'Love your neighbor as yourself. All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments."

Tenth Commandment:
"You shall not covet you neighbor's wife. You shall not set your desire on your neighbor's house of land, his manservant or maidservant, his ox or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor." Deuteronomy 5:21
Peace In Circumstances

As we come to the end of our thoughts on the statutes and judgments given in the Ten Commandments, I have come to believe that all of the the "Shall Nots" are wrapped up in our command not to covet. Could it be that obedience to this simple command can bring about an obedient submission to the rest?

Therefore do not be unwise, but understand what the will of the Lord is. Ephesians 5:17

Envy is being jealous of what others have and wishing for what is not ours. God has made it one of His Ten Commandments that we should be happy with what He has given us. He bestows blessings in His own good timing. We should be happy when we see God blessing those around us. So often that just is not the case.

Jesus said, "Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you: not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. John 14:27

What the LORD says is right and true. IN FAITH...HE is always working in and for us, molding and shaping us to be like His Son, Jesus. We can trust Him because He is Love and He cannot lie. God answers our prayers, ALWAYS! Sometimes He says, "Yes." Sometimes He says, "No." Most often for me, He says, "Wait, I'm working on it."

As my children grew up, I always had a saying, "Mr. Want is not allowed in this house." He could not live with us in our home. He could not go with us when we went shopping or on vacation. Mr. Need, on the other hand remained a permanent addition to the family. Give Mr. Want the boot out of your life. This will save a lot of undue grief. Contentment and peace will replace envy.

A sound heart is life to the body, But envy is rottenness to the bones. Proverbs 14:30

It seems we always think the grass is greener on the other side of the mountain. Wanting to be like someone else will keep our minds looking at what the world has to offer. We will not see what God is up to in our lives. We can be happy and content with what we have when we keep our eyes on Jesus. We can look up to the Heavens when our minds start to get caught up in worldly matters or selfish ambitions. God is always waiting for us to reach to Him so He can show us His mighty power and unconditional love.

Relating Beatitude

"Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me." Matthew 5:11

If we know Jesus Christ as our Lord and understand what it means to be saved, we have the hope and joy in our hearts that comes from knowing God intimately. There is no greater joy than this. When our will matches up with God's will there is nothing withheld from us. Living in His resurrection power and listening to the Holy Spirit within us, we could try gliding on the wings of the dove, instead of desiring the soaring heights of the eagle, insuring God's peace in our circumstances.

Father God,

You have supplied all I need. My happiness and contentment is in You alone. Help me to focus each day on what You have provided and live with eternal gratitude for the blessings of each new day.

Amen
