Building Up/Tearing Down
Important in the Christian faith, is the fellowship and loving acceptance of our Christian brothers and sisters. God speaks often about the way we are to treat each other. He has given His Holy Spirit to guide each of us to accomplish His will for us in this.
"Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who are of the household of faith." Galatians 6:10
Treating all people with God's loving kindness would be great; It doesn't always turn out that way. However, as God gives opportunity, He would have us listen and act upon His command to "love others as much as we love ourselves."
"You, my brothers, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the sinful nature; rather, serve one another in love. The entire law is summed up in a single command: "love your neighbor as yourself." If you keep on biting and devouring each other, watch out or you will be destroyed by each other. Gal: 5:13-15
When kindness needs to be extended to a member of the family of believers, it is important to act quickly with His agape love and build that person up in faith. He recognizes we are all in a battle for our minds, souls and spirits. Anytime we can aid another believer in their personal battle, we should, in Jesus' Name, do all He will enable us to do. The only tearing down should be against the strongholds which exists against the family of God! It would be good for us to remember this before we allow ourselves to generate or even be a listener to gossip or any activity that would cause discord in our church.
"For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. We demolish arguments, and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ." 2 Cor. 10:4-5
The most amazing part of "the Buddy System" for me, is my personal walk with the Holy Spirit. The extent of which I choose or remember to live and walk "in the Spirit" varies from day to day.
IN FAITH, HE... enables me to begin each new day, fresh in His grace that I may extend it to others.
The second part of "the Buddy System" would be my walk with other believers in Christ Jesus. When living by the Spirit, we are far less apt to act in haste toward each other. Sometimes that haste is nothing more than forgetting to encourage the service of others. We don't always see what He wants us to see or hear what He wants us to hear. We can help each other in the "seeing" and the "hearing."
"If a house is divided against itself, that house cannot stand." Mark 3:25
A prayer to share:
Today I pray for the body of Christ. Help us to build each other up in Christian values and not tear down what we do not understand. I pray we can be united in Your kingdom purpose. Amen
