New Attitude — Hiking With a Partner

Do you sometimes feel down, depressed, grouchy, lazy, hateful, and maybe even a bit mean spirited? You may be the victim of "Bad Attitude Syndrome." Can our negativity be detrimental to our health and happiness? God wants us to exchange those bad attitudes for better ones.

I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. Galatians 5:16

This third "What's New," which is ours when we know Jesus as Savior and Lord, can be a daily struggle if we do not learn how to manage our flesh. Attitude is a life skill posture! We can learn to position ourselves to control its effect on us. It seems that we do need help for that; So just where does our help come from?

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self, control....If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. Galatians 5:22,25

You might have learned to ask yourself, "What Would Jesus Do?" I'm thinking asking, "How Would Jesus Act," should enter into this equation. Jesus has the good attitudes and the cure for this syndrome. They are described as, "fruit of the Spirit" in the Bible. We will study these in full later in the year, but for now it is important to note that God equiped us with what we need for correction. We can live a positive more enjoyable life, and so can those around us. It is our choice to use these precious gifts God has given with the indwelling of His Spirit.

"...each of you should learn to control his own body in a way that is holy and honorable...For God did not call us to be impure, but to live a holy life." 1 Thessalonians 4:4,7

When we seem to be on a roller coaster of mountains and valleys, and somewhat out of control, we need spiritual healing. It may seem odd for me to speak about "Bad Attitudes" as a sickness. In reality, it really can be. It can shape our destiny! Where is our "Attitude of Gratitude" when we need it most? Truth is, good and positive attitude is within us waiting to come forward if we would pay attention and realize it's worth.

Now the Lord is the Spirit; and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. 2 Corinthians 3:17

When needing a positive attitude check, I find my recovery is in prayer and cooperation with God. By asking Him to give me a nudge when the sickness appears, IN FAITH, HE... exchanges my bad attitude for one from the fruit of the Spirit, bringing a quick cure and God's instantaneous blessing.

Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant and coming in the likeness of men. Philippians 2:5-7

The next time you are stricken with "Bad Attitude Syndrome," look around and see how many other people are hurting because you did not reach for the cure. Try setting the stage for your attitudes in the beginning of each day. When you awaken in the morning give God control over your emotions and feelings. He will do a much better job of handling them. Acting as Jesus would act can bring joy back into a bad situation!

Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God's. 1 Corinthians 6:19-20

A Prayer to Share:

Holy Spirit,

Bring to my mind each occasion of "Bad Attitude," when I am allowing my feelings to direct my thoughts and actions. Remind me that You are here to enable me with the fruit of Your Spirit; To comfort and guide me through every circumstance, through every doubt, and through all sorrow. Teach me to be calm and rest in Your perfect peace even when I forget to ask for it.

In Jesus Name. Amen
