"IN FAITH, HE..." Devotional from Cherbear

God the Father spoke in The Old Testement Commandments:
These commands are our indictment!
He gave us further instruction in The New Testament Commandments:
Jesus replied: "'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: 'Love your neighbor as yourself. All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments."
And then, Jesus the Christ provided our pardon!
The Ten Commandments (4) - A Restful Escape
Fourth Commandment
"Observe the Sabbath day to keep it holy, as the Lord your God commanded you." Deuteronomy 5:12
Have you wondered why we humans work so hard? With so much to do, it seems we have little time for rest. God makes it clear in Genesis, we are to work. It really is part of the curse we received when Adam and Eve chose to disobey God. However, God did not leave us in the curse. He provided relief and release from it.
Resting in His Arms
"In six days I made the heavens and the earth. I made the oceans and everything in them. But I rested on the seventh day. So I blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy." Exodus 20:11
Can you see our Holy God in need of rest? He is the One who said it, so it has to be true. All of what God says, He has done and it was Him Who blessed the seventh day as a day of rest. However, it does seem to me to have been yet another part of His redemptive plan for mankind. There is much good work that can be done on the Sabbath day, and in Matthew 12, Jesus explains the differences between the legalistic beliefs surrounding the Sabbath from the truths of His fulfillment of this command. Filling our hearts with Jesus no matter where we are or what we are doing is always a great decision. Resting in Jesus is the answer to this peaceful rest! The fourth chapter of Hebrews tells us much about the promise of rest.
There remains therefore a rest for the people of God. For he who has entered His rest has himself also ceased from his works as God did from His. Hebrews 4:9-10
One of Jesus' great blessings is entering into His rest. He will use the time we give Him to prosper our days and calm our hearts. Many blessings come with our worship of Him. He lives in the Spirit filled, wholehearted praise and worship of His people. We need a time to be with other believers as we lift Him up and learn about Him. We can experience His rest by reminding ourselves and others of just how much He loves us. He is a God of order and Sunday is provided for us as a day to forget the things of the world and focus on Him. We can start a new week knowing He is with us, loves us and will help us with all of our needs.
Luke 4:16-19 "Jesus went to Nazareth, where he had been brought up. And as His custom was, He went into the synagogue on the Sabbath day, and stood up to read. And He was handed the book of the prophet Isaiah. And when He had opened the book, He found the place where it was written: "
"The Spirit of the LORD is upon Me,
Because He has anointed Me
To preach the gospel to the poor;
He has sent Me to heal the brokenherted,
To proclaim liberty to the captives
And recovery of sight to the blind
To set at liberty those who are opressed;
To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD."
Jesus taught from the Old Testament scriptures when He went to the synagogues on the Sabbath day. He shows us what God says to us through the prophets in the Old Testament and through Him and the Apostles in the New Testament, as well! "For the Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath." Matthew 12:8 This verse establishes Jesus, the messianic King, with the authority to supercede the Sabbath laws.
Keep yourselves in God's love as you wait for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to bring you to eternal life... To Him who is able to keep you from falling and to present you before His glorious presence without fault and with great glory, majesty, power and authority through Jesus Christ our Lord,...Jude 1:21, 24, 25b
There was a time in my life when attending church on Sunday lost it's place in the priority settings of my life. Whether in some disillusionment with church itself or giving time to other events, I found this stepping away only served one purpose, to diminish my awareness of God's presence and to weaken the faith, trust and joy I had known in Him. IN FAITH, He... placed a yearning within my heart to return Him to the center of my life. I found renewal seeking the church family God had planned for me. God always blesses our search for Him and His will.
Relating Beatitude
"Then the King will say to those on His right hand, 'Come, you blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world..." Matthew 25:34
Sabbath rest is an essential portion of our inheritance. We need only to embrace it. Resting in Him is provided as a blessing for our heart, mind, soul and spirit. Remembering the wonderful mercies of our Lord and Savior in worship of Him will bring peace and joy that only He can provide. No matter what time you set aside to be with your God, experience Him and receive a Sabbath rest!
Lord Jesus,
Thank You for tugging at my heart with such love and insistence. Praising You, I rest in Your loving arms giving thanks for my church family and for all You have placed within my very own "blessed plan of redemption."
