When God first revealed this study to me I had never encountered the Ten Commandments of the Old Testament taught in conjunction with the Beatitudes of the New Testament which Jesus gave us in His sermon to the multitudes in the Gospel of Matthew. These Illustrated Ten Commandment Bible Studies for Children will expand over a 10 week period and each weekly lesson containing five daily devotions! I hope you will not miss the importance of studying the Beatitudes along side the Ten Commandments. God gave His Laws, Commandments to the Prophets. He sent Jesus to fill the Laws and bring us a better way to be in right standing with Him! Oh what a wonderful world it would be if we could live in harmony with them all! See if these speak to you as loudly as they did to me. I invite you to study below and see how wonderfully these can be taught to the children in your family or in your Children's Sunday School classes or Kidz Church. They worked great for me!

"Teach them to obey everything I have commanded you.
And you can be sure that I am always with you, to the very end."

Christian Bible Studies for Children following God's Path

Old Testament - Ten Commandments

New Testament - Sermon on the Mount – The Beatitudes
Commands and Blessings

God has given us His laws, The Ten Commandments, to help us in our Christian walk. The plans He has for us are to bless us. In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus teaches the blessings that come when we do what God tells us to do, but we must do them for the right reasons. Actions and works will not bring salvation. God is far more concerned with the condition of our hearts than our actions. First we must receive Jesus as our Savior and Lord. His Holy Spirit comes to live in us. Then we can enjoy the blessings of doing what God commands. We do what is right because our hearts are turned to Him. We can overcome sin because He gave us that victory in Jesus Christ.

This study teaches the Ten Commandments together with the "Blessed are They" statements Jesus gave us on His sermon on the Mount which we will study from the Gospel of Matthew. We need to reinforce our need to obey the Ten Commandments without reservation. They are there for our protection; but no longer as a basis for our salvation. Teaching what makes us "blessed" goes hand and hand with the Laws given to the Prophet Moses. I pray you will be creative in your teaching to the children and the ideas below will be of comfort as they come with their many questions!

The Ten Commandments Bible Studies

The links below will take you to each individual study for the children. Below these you will find the Beatitudes listed, which you will find within each study along with a short study which will wrap up the lesson. I find these to also be appropriate for preteen children and you can choose which study would fit your particular maturity level group. If you need the study for more mature preteens and younger teens, follow this link where I have rewritten the study for reading on their age level.

If you take the first list to heart and do them as God has commanded, Jesus tells us, in the New Testaments, what will come from our obedience. First He tells us all Ten of these commandments are included in these two:
Matt. 22:36-40 "Jesus replied, "'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul. Love him with all your mind.' This is the first and most important commandment. And the second is like it. 'Love your neighbor as you love yourself.' Everything that is written in the Law and the Prophets is based on these two commandments."

The Beatitudes
Sermon on the Mount - Blessed is He! Bible Studies
From the 5th Chapter of Matthew

These are brought out in the lessons with the

Ten Commandment lessons above as they complete the study!

Blessed are those who are spiritually needy.
Blessed are those who are sad.
Blessed are those who are free of pride.
Blessed are those who are hungry and thirsty for what is right.
Blessed are those whose hearts are pure.
Blessed are those who show mercy.
Blessed are the peacemakers.
Blessed are those who suffer for doing what is right.
Blessed are you when people make fun of you and hurt you because of me....
"Then the King will speak to those on his right. He will say,
'My father has blessed you. Come and take what is yours.
It is the kingdom prepared for you since the world was created."
Matthew 25:34
"I tell you, you will not see me again until you say,
'Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord.'"
Matthew 23:39
Attention Sunday School, Kids Church, and Teachers of the children!
People sometimes do not see all the 'if', 'but' and 'however' statements in the Word of God. We have blessings for our obedience and we have consequences for our disobedience. God loves us and is the same Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow!
I have found it very difficult to teach the 'Ten Commandments' and even the 'Blessed Are They' lessons without giving an appearance of legalistic attitudes. I assure you that my heart is not connected to a works mentality. Children need to learn right actions. God gave us His boundaries in the Holy Bible and He gave them for OUR GOOD. Right attitudes and actions come when we become totally devoted unto Him in full agreement with His Word! These were the most challenging of all the lessons at Cherbearsden.com. Please emphasize the relationship God desires to have with us to the children as you go through this study. He wants us to love Him as unconditionally as He loves us!

Special Commentary for the TEACHERS OF GOD's WORD!
There are many more studies in Gramma Cherbear's curriculum, Animation Trail. I used them in my Kid's Church over a five year period, changing the crafts and music around a bit, and adding different coloring pages and skits of interest. The children I taught never tired of them. To this date the children I have instructed with these lessons have not forgotten the classes we shared and Gramma Cherbear gets hugs for her efforts whenever and wherever we meet. What a great, rewarding experience the Lord has given me. I will be forever grateful for the opportunity to teach His Word to the children. Each lesson in Animation Trail Bible Study comes with an easy lesson guide for you to print out. I enlisted the help of my church members as assistance and our youth to help with crafts and music. I have included links to many of the crafts and ideas I used with each lesson. This is a massive 6 year labor of love from and for our Lord's Kingdom. This is a doable bible study for any Bible believing church leader to teach to the children and also for the teens.
