I strongly suggest that you get the newest browser updates
at Netscape Navigator or Internet Explorer You
can purchase the Netscape CD's for the full versions. Then you
can upgrade online easily. Students may dowload the Beta Versions.
Netscape has its own email program.
If a file or image does not automatically open when coming
to your desktop or downloads folder, use Stuffit Expander, for
Macintosh(can be downloaded at Apples website), or a Zip utility
such as WinZip or PKWare for PC, found in Netscape file folder
to expand the contents. If you can't find these programs just
use your find file commands and let the computer track it for
you.
Cherbear's Den and Kid
Cave tips:
I have tried to make navigation in Cherbear's Den and the
Kid Cave easy for even the newest of internet travelers. Below
are a few tips to get you around safely, with as little trauma
as possible. My site is 6 sites in one. Cherbear's Den, In Faith,
He... Devotions, The Kid Caverns, The Kid Cave, Animation Trail
Devotions for Kids, and the newest addition, The Teen Caverns.
Cherbear's Den is for Parents or homeschooling parents and other
adults. The Kid Cave is for Children. The Kid Caverns are for
all to explore, however I have provided adults with links they
will enjoy in the Den. Web rings are a good way to surf the web
and stay within your interest. I have a Devotions page for adults
and the Animated Devotion is for the children to enjoy. Teenagers
can grow in their relationship with this 'meat' of the Word,
bible study and site prepared just for them. You will enjoy searching
out the pages where Cherbear presents the Gospel to Kids..
Search Engines will pick up many of my pages. I have added
a way for visitors, who come through the back door, to enter
through the front door. When you see the Cherbear's Den logo
at the bottom of a page, it will always bring you back
to my home page or Den page.
I have added a "select a destination" pop up
menu to most of my entrance pages and feature pages and that
should help you navigate my site.
You can also choose between two start up pages for your
computer. Follow the directions and have your computer browser
always open to that page. I will keep these updated for you as
the site grows and as other features come to my attention that
I think will benefit you.
General Navigation tips:
1. When you enter a page, look at the graphics and the
highlighted underlined text. Move your mouse arrow over them.
If they turn into a hand with a pointy finger, it means that
clicking in that spot will take you to another page or location
on a page. Sometimes a graphic will have several points where
the hand will appear. That means there are more links in the
graphic.
2. Hitting the BACK button at the top left of your browser
window will take you to the previous page you were on, you can
go back as far as you like. When in the Kid Caverns, this is
handy to bring you back to Gramma Cherbear's Caves.
3. Hitting the FORWARD button on the top left of your browser
window will take you as far forward as you were when you started
to back up.
4. If you hit the BACK button and nothing happens, you
probably opened into a new window and just need to click the
tiny box in the far upper left portion of your window (Mac) or
the X in the far right corner (Windows), to close it. Your original
page should be underneath it.
5. In some browsers, if the web designer has included music
in the page, it will play automatically when you enter the page.
Other browsers will show you a rectangular grayish box with forward,
back or start arrows to give you the choice of playing the music.
I suggest you do play the music in this site.
6. I have set the music to play through pages that are
related. In order to do this, the pages you click on will often
open in a new window. When you are finished with that story or
section of the site, it is best to close the extra windows and
go back to the start window. Don't be alarmed if you open another
window at the same time and end up with music playing on two
pages. What a racket! If this happens, you just calmly close
one of the windows and continue to explore the site from the
one that remains. No problem!
7. It is really advisable to go to the top of your browser
and select a page as a Favorite (Internet Explorer) or Bookmark
it (Netscape). That way if you do loose your way, you can quickly
return by selecting it from your menu. I suggest doing that for
the Den entrance and for the Kid Cave Entrance for those who
have children. The Animated Devotions are a sure thing for this
too!
8. Click and scroll the side bar to take you places in
the page quickly (top, middle, bottom). Some browsers will let
you do this with the arrow keys on your key board.
9. If you are too quick on the trigger and images don't
come up, just hit the Reload or Refresh button on your browser
menu, and give them a little more time. The pages with music
take a little longer to download to your server. It is worth
the wait, especially for kids.
Have fun!! You can't hurt anything,
so go for it!
