All of the Gospels were written after the resurrection of Christ and from the teaching of those who were with Jesus in his ministry or were His disciples in the foundation of the New Testament Christian churches! Matthew and John walked with Jesus before the cross, and walked again with him after the resurrection! Peter was there as well and his words guided the pen of Mark. They were present when Christ ascended up to heaven and sent His Holy Spirit to live within all who believe in Him. Matthew, Mark and John were eye witnesses to these events. Luke was with Paul and had first hand knowledge of the ministry of Christ.
In this series we will see God's wonderful plan as we learn of Jesus Christ as the long awaited King of kings, the Servant King, the Great Physician, and the Deity of Jesus as God's Only Son is revealed. The Holy Lamb of God came to give His life as a sin offering for you and for me. God did not leave us in the dark.
Ps. 119:105 Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path.
The Word of God
God's Inspiration or 'God - Breathed'
There is a huge difference between "written by God's inspiration," and "God - breathed inspiration." What I do is inspired of God. God enables me, by His wonderful Holy Spirit, to create the art and write these words to you. One day I will give testimony as to why I know this is true. What the men God chose to write to us in the scriptures experienced is "God - breathed inspiration." It is so important that you realize the difference. Here are some verses for you to study. Pray now, for understanding, and ask God to reveal this truth to your heart, mind, soul and spirit.
John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
John 1:14 The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.
2Tim. 3:16-17 All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.
Hebr. 4:12 For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.
Ps. 119:11 I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you.
Ps. 119:89 Your word, O LORD, is eternal; it stands firm in the heavens.
John 17:17 Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth.
Ps. 138:2 I will bow down toward your holy temple and will praise your name for your love and your faithfulness, for you have exalted above all things your name and your word.
Prov. 30:5 "Every word of God is flawless; he is a shield to those who take refuge in him.
Eph. 6:17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.
1Ths. 2:13 And we also thank God continually because, when you received the word of God, which you heard from us, you accepted it not as the word of men, but as it actually is, the word of God, which is at work in you who believe.
1Pet. 1:23 For you have been born again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the living and enduring word of God.
Rev. 19:13 He (Jesus) is dressed in a robe dipped in blood, and his name is the Word of God.
Did you get that? The Word of God, or the Holy Bible, is "God - breathed" and full of LIFE for you and me. There is Power and Truth from God in these scriptures and His Book needs to be treated with reverence. Take it to heart and you will begin to understand the 'deep things' Gramma Cherbear wishes to teach you. I want you to note how God allowed each of the Gospel writers' personalities to come through. God wants you to see how He can work through those with hearts that are totally given over to Him. Not because they are perfect, but because they are His. He wants you to see them as the people they were, writing His life giving Words to you.
I hope you will study these awhile before you continue into this lesson. Ponder it! Go to the passages or chapters where I found these verses, and read all around them. This will give you a better perspective of what was going on at the time they were written. God bless you, as you seek to know Him! Take your time! Never hurry with a study in the Bible.
