The Ten Commandments and Beatitudes

Bible Study for Teens

These Illustrated Ten Commandment bible studies for early teenagers can expand over ten weeks and have include five daily devotions as well as one weekly Insights into the Bible devotion for every lesson, each one relating to the study! I hope you won't miss the importance of studying the Beatitudes along side the Ten Commandments. I see the relationship so clearly. In the Ten Commandments we were "indicted!" Jesus is our "pardon." He has given us abundant life for the asking. He has a few of His own Commandments, however and we'd do well to pay close attention.

Old and New Testament Comparison

Christian Bible Study for Teenagers!

This "Ten Commandment" study from Cherbear's one year Bible study for teenagers is also written for children and you can visit the curriculum page for that study as well! All ten lessons are taught together with "The Beatitudes" of the New Testament adding biblical insight into God's redemptive purpose. Each contains five daily devotions and a coloring page for children, and a weekly devotional insight into the Bible for teens. This ten part series helps teach us how to walk a closer walk with our Lord. The focus is in learning Christian behavior and seeking to know God's ways.

The Bible Says:

"Teach them to obey everything I have commanded you.
And you can be sure that I am always with you, to the very end."
Matthew 28:20

Old Testament - Ten Commandments

New Testament - Sermon on the Mount – The Beatitudes

Commands and Blessings

God has given us His laws, The Ten Commandments to let us know the moral code by which He expects us to live. These commands condemn us to a spiritual death in our walk with Him. The plans He has for us are to bless us. Jeremiah 29:11 "For I know the plans I have for you, " declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." That hope is in Jesus and through Him, God provided the way for us to have a "full pardon." His forgiveness is all encompassing!

On the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus teaches the blessings that come when we do what God tells us to do, but we must do them for the right reasons. Actions and works will not bring salvation. God is far more concerned with the condition of our hearts than our actions. First we must receive Jesus as our Savior and Lord. His Holy Spirit comes to live in us. Then we can enjoy the blessings of doing what God commands. We do what is right because our hearts are turned to Him. We can overcome sin because He gave us that victory and sent the Holy Spirit to enable us to live in Jesus Christ.

This study teaches the Ten Commandments together with the "Blessed are they" statements Jesus made on His sermon on the Mount. We need to reinforce our need to obey the Ten Commandments. They are there for our protection. But no as a basis for our salvation. Teaching what makes us blessed seems to go hand and hand with the Laws. I pray you will be creative in your teaching!

Commandment 10 Teen Bible Study

If you take the first list to heart and do them as God has commanded, Jesus tells us, in the New Testaments, what will come from our obedience. But first, He tells us all Ten of these commandments are included in these two:

Matt. 22:36-40 "Jesus replied, "'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul. Love him with all your mind.' This is the first and most important commandment. And the second is like it. 'Love your neighbor as you love yourself.' Everything that is written in the Law and the Prophets is based on these two commandments."

The Beatitudes

The Sermon on the Mount - Blessed is He! Bible Studies

From the 5th Chapter of Matthew verses 3 through 12

Brought out in the lessons with the Ten Commandment studies

above as they complete each lesson!

Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.

Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth.

Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.

Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy.

Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.

Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called sons of God.

Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you
and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me.

Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven
for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

"Then the King will speak to those on his right.
'Come you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance,
the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world." Matthew 25:34

"For I tell you, you will not see me again until you say,
'Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.'" Matthew 23:39

Attention Sunday School, Kids Church, and Teachers of children and teens!

People sometimes do not see all the 'if', 'but' and 'however' statements in the Word of God. We have blessings for our obedience and we have consequences for our disobedience. God loves us and is the same Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow!

I have found it very difficult to teach the 'Ten Commandments' and even the 'Blessed Are They' lessons without giving an appearance of legalistic attitudes. I assure you that my heart is not connected to a works mentality. We all need to learn right actions. God gave us His boundaries book for our good. Right attitudes and actions come when we become totally devoted to Him in full agreement with His Word! These were the most challenging of all the lessons at

Please emphasize the relationship God desires to have with us to the youth as you go through this study. He wants us to love Him as unconditionally as He loves us!
