This "Fruit of the Spirit" study from Cherbear's biblical insights Devotional for Children and Teens also contains five daily devotions and a weekly Bible Study suited for childhood and teen development. This eight part series singles out each of the "fruits" found in Galatians 5:22-23a, revealing what happens when we use the gifts of the Holy Spirit given to us when we accept Jesus' gift of salvation. The focus is on knowing God's character and using the gifts! The Lord brought these illustrations, lessons and devotions to me in reverse order, saving the most important one for last!

"But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control..." Galatians 5:22-23a

Verses to use with this Study

For the kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking,
but of righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit,
Rom. 14:17

May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him,
so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.
Rom. 15:13

But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name,
will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.
John 14:26
"When the Counselor comes, whom I will send to you from the Father,
the Spirit of truth who goes out from the Father, he will testify about me.
John 15:26

But I tell you the truth: It is for your good that I am going away.
Unless I go away, the Counselor will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you.
John 16:7

Let's go to the Teen Trail of Truth Devotions and learn how we can live as Jesus would have us live! How do we know the will of God and what will please Him? I also pray you will embrace a little different approach to the teaching of the "Fruits of the Spirit," as I will explain; When I created these lessons and illustrated them, God gave them to me in reverse order, starting with "Self Control" and ending with "LOVE." The Agape Love of Jesus Christ is the most important as we learn in Corithians 13:13 "The three most important things to have are faith, hope and love. But the greatest of them is love. Love is the fruit whereby all the others hold together! It works great when taught in the Kids Church setting and Sunday School as well.

In the next eight weeks we will learn about the Fruit of the Spirit of Jesus Christ. The Bible says these are love, joy, peace, goodness and kindness, patience, gentleness and mercy, faithfulness and self control. What is the Fruit of the Spirit? Where does this fruit come from? When we believe on the name of Jesus and say that He is Lord, we can become sons and daughters of God. We become brothers and sisters to Jesus. We know from Romans 3:23 "...all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God." And yet our perfect and holy God wanted all of us to be His children. Jesus came to make that possible for anyone who will come to Him. Jesus lived in full reliance upon the Holy Spirit as an example of how we are to live as children of God. He did not sin and He obeyed God. He was faithful to friends and faithful to God the Father. He loved other people with God's love. He lived with joy and peace about God's plan for His life. He did not live in fear of anyone or anything. He was forgiving and merciful to those who did wrong. He was a faithful friend and always in control of his actions and thoughts. Jesus wanted to please God the Father. God's Spirit knew His heart and supplied Him with all He needed to live a holy life before God. God the Father was very pleased with His Son, Jesus, and He can also be pleased with us. Let's go forward and learn how God rewards our efforts and aids us in the process of living as Jesus would have us live. There are many ways of presenting the sacrifice He made for us and the plan of salvation and I have listed many of these in my Gospel pages.

All of the Fruit of the Spirit provide the necessary nutrients for your soul. When Jesus walked on the earth, to fulfill His mission, God's Holy Spirit was always there to help Him. When Jesus needed strength, what did He do? He prayed for one thing! Jesus used the mighty power of the Holy Spirit to heal sick people and do many miracles. He was God's only Son in heaven, but God send Him to earth to be the Savior of the world. God sent His Holy Spirit to be with Jesus and help Him in every way. Jesus came to earth to live as a man, always depending upon the Holy Spirit of God. He did this to show us how He wants us to live.

In the lessons that follow, you will find these truths of God to be easy to follow and understand as Gramma's Critters struggle just as we do to please God in our everyday lives. We are all a work in progress and "the Bible," "His Word," is will us as our "instruction and boundaries manual." God doesn't want us to struggle. His ways are always a path that moves forward with His great LOVE. The fruit of the Spirit represents the very qualities and character of God Himself. Jesus lived a Spirit filled life. When he left the earth to go back to live in heaven with His Father, He sent the Holy Spirit back to the earth to live inside of those who come to know Him. Jesus spoke to His disciples in John 14 through 16. He told of the Holy Spirit that would come to them. He also comes to us! "...But I tell you the truth: It is for your good that I am going away. Unless I go away, the Counselor will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you. When he comes, he will convict the world of guilt in regard to sin and righteousness and judgment: in regard to sin, because me do not believe in me; in regard to righteousness, because I am going to the Father, where you can see me no longer; and in regard to judgment, because the prince of this world now stand condemned. ... But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all truth...He will bring glory to me by taking from what is mine and making it known to you." John 16:5-16 in part.

When we live by the Fruit of God's Spirit, we are living a Spirit filled life. God wants all of us to live with these qualities. If we know Him, we have these gifts from Him. The Holy Spirit is in us to teach us how to use them. But the Holy Spirit is a gentleman. He won't force us to please God. We must choose to live by the Fruit of the Spirit. It takes practice for us to get it right. That is why He sent Jesus and His Holy Spirit to help you and guide you to Him.

I pray this series of studies will bless you, whether teaching children or teens. I have written them to meet the needs of both. The illustrations are also good for any age. I challenge the teens to look for the deeper agenda behind the actions of the critters. They are so like the real children I have experienced and the circumstances they face are quite real.
